What's this?
Our recommendations are to try everything and avoid anywhere with photos on the menu. Some of the tourist food is truly awful but Sitges also has some great places to eat. You will not be disappointed. Most produce is locally grown or fished. Some recommendations are:
Cafes: The al fresco café in C.Mayor for excellent salads. For traditional tapas try Pescaditos on the very busy Dos de Mayo, or the less crowded but lovely traditional café at La Granja.
Bars: Again…far too many favourites to mention but we like the bat at Al Fresco restaurant for excellent cocktails. Sangria sipping at Buena Vida bar in Sant Sebastian, closely followed by a Mojito at the Vorramer bar. For cabaret fun try the Piano bar in C. Sant Bonaventura.
Restaurants: A few favourites are Zodiaco on C. Bonaire a very firm favourite. Also Dore in C. Mayor for something special, or you could try Al Fresco. Usually excellent but sometimes too crowded to relax.
Shops: So many to mention. FUBU on C. Parellades, excellent shoes and very good deals on handbags and designer goods in C. Angel. Ask in our office for an excellent local shopping map.
Beaches: Sitges has over 9 kilometres of sandy beaches settled in different coves along the bay. They range from small family beaches at Sant Sebastian, to nudist beaches and gay nudist beaches towards the end of the town close to the forests of the Garraf. The office stores complete maps to all the beaches of the Garraf.
Perfect for sailing, surfing, jet ski, (all of which are available from the Port at Aiquadolce, all of the beaches carry blue flags. Towards the Vinyet areas of Sitges, there are few bars and cafes, for those who want a quieter holiday, or the areas close to Sant Sebastian, Aiguadolce and Punta Gaviota have very small and intimate beaches.
Parish Church of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla
The church of both Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla sits at the northern tip of the town and marks the beginning of the 9 beaches as they stretch down to the equally dominant Terramar, some 3 kilometres away.
Like most town landmarks this one is endlessly repeated on postcards, posters and local artists seem to be able to paint nothing else. The focus for local weddings, jazz festivals and impromptu concerts, the streets surrounding the church are the same age as the church, 300 years old and form the backdrop to the frequent spectacular fireworks displays.
Maricel Palace
Just beyond the church the Palau Mar i Cel. Built by Miquel Utrillo, the palace is ornately decorated with capìtals created by the sculptor Pere Jou, magnificent tiles and beautiful terraces.
